waking_up_early_without_hating_yourself

Tired of waking up early hating myself, I began writing a self-improvement paragraph each morning. I took it public in an effort to help others with the same problems. I'm honest, imperfect, sincere, & have no idea if my eyes are blue, green, or hazel.

What Gets You Out Of Bed In The Morning

Most people don't like change. It goes against the grain. Change can be as difficult as trying to write with the other hand, or as simple as sleeping on the other side of the bed. I've often wondered what it would be like to get up on the bathroom side of our bedroom. I should try it. After all, I'm the one who gets up twice a night.

I started blogging in July of 2013. I had been reading about the benefits of writing a journal each morning. A short paragraph regarding my person, who I wanted to be, and what I valued. It become somewhat popular. I'm open (for the most part) and honest, and others enjoyed knowing they weren't alone with their struggles.

But lately I've been questioning my passion, my happiness. I've asked myself 5 simple questions:

Should I Buy A House Or Is It Overrated

Several years ago I read a book called Rich Dad, Poor Dad. Most have heard of it. Usually when I read something like that I'm looking for a 1 or 2 nuggets to come away with. I'm looking for gems. And one of them was how owning a home can be overrated.

That's right. Robert Kiyosaki said if he wasn't into investment properties he wouldn't own a home. He'd rent. As would I.

Slowing Down Enough To Love My Boys

Sometimes I forget just how good life is with Sean and RyRo. Sure, they have the ability to drive me nuts. Most 9 and 12 year olds do. But they can bring a smile to my face in the midst of a storm, even if they caused the storm.

Am I Raising Difference-Makers?

Several years back Korean Air was having more plane crashes than any other airline. It was so bad the FAA stopped all relationships with them, not allowing connections with any US based airline. After some serious humility, the problem turned out to be authority. That's right. Planes were crashing because of lack of authority. The copilot had very little say in his duty. If he felt the pilot was being unsafe or in an unsafe environment (say flying to low, or too fast, or even too slow, etc) he didn't speak up. His culture was that of most dads and their kids. Most. Not mine.

Caring More About People & Less About Their Actions

I'd bet most of my heartache and mistakes come from acting on emotion. Anytime I get discouraged, let down or angry, I look for a quick fix. The pressure bottles up and I hurry for a release. Like going off on someone. Be it my boys, Kelly, or the mouth sitting the stands at the baseball game. If we can learn to control our emotion, we can control almost anything, almost any situation.

The Benefits To Knowing So Many People

Posted by Nick Gann

We have this saying at The Gann Agency: we never ask anything of anyone that we haven't already done something for. Read that again, it's a mouthful. It's easier to ask for something if we've previously given something.
Before you start to wonder if I have ulterior motives in meeting people, know that I do. Everyone does. I'm one of the few who will admit it. I thoroughly enjoy fellowship. It's what makes food better, it makes fishing fun. It makes vacations more enjoyable. Fellowship can do a number on a plane ride, or even on an elevator. It's all in our approach. And the benefits are ridiculous.

What I Do To Know So Many People

It wasn't that long ago when I was shy, and afraid to introduce myself or ask someone for their name. I was worried about being turned down, shunned or blown off. But I was also tired of being uncomfortable around others. I was tired feeling lonely in a crowd. I wanted to know people. I wanted people to know me. So I faced my fear... and things began to change.

I Become Important When I Engage Others

It's ironic that my blogs about listening aren't very popular. People don't want to listen to what I have to say about listening. The truth is that most people aren't good listeners. We're too busy wanting to talk, thinking about what we're going to say. It's exactly why we're bad with names. We aren't listening. Before I lose you, let me ask you a couple questions:

It Doesn't Have To Be All About Me

It's no secret that I take Celexa. It has really calmed me down. And sometimes calm means asleep. It has a tendency to make me tired. Especially if I take a quiet break, like waiting in my truck in the pickup line at school, or on the bed/table in the doctor's office. They've turned the light off for me - how nice. I've even slept through the dinging noise made by the tanning bed when the time expires. Hey, it's hard to get out of a warm bed, tanning or not. And I've fallen asleep on a yoga mat at the gym, broad daylight.

In Order To Be Positive I Have To See Positive

For a couple years now I've been working on how I discipline Sean and RyRo. Maybe discipline isn't the word... How I raise them. How I teach them. And I've learned the key to raising a good kid isn't being strict. The key isn't discipline at all. Well, it is discipline, but not in the sense of punishment, more in the sense of allowing it to take it's course. My point here isn't even about raising my boys. It's about being positive. Not being negative just because something negative happens.
